Are we just interchangeable parts
With interchangeable hearts
Easily replaced or conveniently erased
When another model enters the space
To fill someone’s need or maybe greed
That emptiness continues to feed
When our enjoyability begins to cede
After finding we have an overwhelming need
Are we unique to God, to anyone
Or merely a stop toward another someone
Do we matter, should we care
Or should we shut it all down behind a demoralized stare
Friends and lovers here and gone
Disappearing like mist at dawn
Perfectly loved or easily discarded
Not so easy to know for the brokenhearted
